Hamble Hockey Club has been part of the community in Hamble, Southampton since 1958 and stands as a welcoming, affordable, and family-focused sports club. Founded by Ken Makepeace, the then Headteacher at Hamble School, it started as ‘Hamble Old Boys Hockey Club’ and has grown into a respected club with three mens and two ladies teams, as well as a youth section producing some of Hampshire’s finest players.
Hamble Hockey’s Role as a Mile Maker at the 2024 ABP Southampton Marathon
At the ABP Southampton Marathon, our Mile Makers play a vital role in creating an unforgettable race day experience. These dedicated volunteers line the course, cheering on runners and offer support to keep spirits high throughout the event. This year, we were thrilled to have Hamble Hockey Club join us as Mile Makers, helping to make the marathon a truly memorable day for all involved.
The efforts of our Mile Makers don't go unnoticed. Not only do they uplift and motivate thousands of participants, but they also play a key part in supporting their own fundraising initiatives. As a thank you for their hard work, Hamble Hockey Club received a £250 donation to kick start their campaign for vital upgrades to their facilities.
Being a Mile Maker is more than just volunteering, it's about making a difference in your community. Whether you’re a local club, group, or individual, joining our Mile Maker team is a great way to give back, support runners, and help make the ABP Southampton Marathon an event to remember.
Hamble Hockey Clubs Fundraising Goal
The funds raised will directly impact the quality of the club's facilities, ensuring that players, spectators, and the community have a safe and enjoyable experience. The floodlights and dugouts are essential for maintaining the high standards of training and match conditions, especially as the club looks to continue its legacy of developing hockey talent in the region.
Hamble Hockey Club’s participation in the ABP Southampton Marathon was not just a way to support a fantastic event, it was a great kickstart to their broader fundraising efforts. Now, the club is calling on its community, players, and supporters to help reach the £50,000 target. Every contribution will help secure the future of the club’s facilities and ensure it remains a hub of sporting excellence.
